Daniel’s Testimony
It was in the springtime of 1987 on a Wednesday in children’s church. As a young lady gave the Gospel to a small group of kids, the Lord began to move. I realized that my sin was going to cause me to die and go to hell, and I asked the Lord Jesus to come in my heart and forgive me of my sins. In 1992, at Friendship Baptist Church, Evangelist Carl Hatch was preaching on “A Surrendered Life;” that morning, I felt that the Lord had called me to be a preacher. Over the years, the call began to wane as I began to feel the pull of the world. But in 2000, at a meeting in Pontiac, Michigan, God gave me a verse - 2 Timothy 4:1-2 - “I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ…Preach the word…”
In 2007, I had opportunity to work in the Reclamation Ranch boys’ home. After spending a year there, I returned to my home church, Lighthouse Baptist, where my father was pastoring. I filled in as associate pastor there for 4 years. During that time, I met and married my wife, Rebekah. The Lord allowed us many opportunities to serve him together in our home church. In 2013, God called us to go to Bible College at Gloryland Baptist Church. A year after graduating, the Lord moved us to Alden Baptist Church in Graysville, Alabama.
While in Bible College, a visiting evangelist announced he was looking for families to go to Uganda. For the first time in my life, I felt like the Lord was speaking to me about being a missionary. Not wanting to make an emotional decision, I decided to wait and pray. A few years later, in 2017, Bro. Keith Stensaas came to our church and presented his ministry in Uganda. The Lord impressed upon my heart to go visit Bro. Keith on the mission field. The following November, my wife and I spent 3 weeks in Uganda with the Stensaas family. After much prayer, the Lord spoke to my heart about going to Uganda, and I have resolved in my heart to follow the Lord.
Rebekah’s Testimony
Born and raised in a Christian home, I thought I was saved at a young age, but struggled with it for years. At the age of 18, at a campmeeting in upstate New York, Bro. Jason Kendrick was preaching a message “Let me tell you about my Father.” As he continued the message, I remembered asking myself, “Is he my Father? When I die, will I go to heaven or hell?” I took my dad’s hand and asked him to pray with me. We went to the altar and he asked me a few questions. Knowing all the right answers, but now realizing I was on my way to hell, I asked the Lord Jesus to come into my heart and be my Savior!
As a little girl, I dreamed of being a missionary, pastor, or evangelist’s wife. I could work in an orphanage to help homeless kids and teach them about God and the Bible. I loved the thought of helping others. If married, I would follow my husband wherever the Lord led us. In 2006, we moved to Lockport, New York. There was a young couple going out many weeknights to do street ministries in Buffalo and Niagara Falls. I got to help by passing out tracts and witnessing to the UAB students.
Daniel and I got married in 2009 and began to serve in his home church in Louisiana, Lighthouse Baptist Church. In 2013, Daniel came into the house excited to tell me that the Lord had spoken to him about going to Bible College. We made it to Birmingham, Alabama two weeks later. When we got to Gloryland, we worked together in various ministries. Since Daniel’s graduation, the Lord opened a door for us to help Pastor Eby at Alden Baptist Church and be faithful there. We are able to help wherever we are needed.
